How to Register to Vote in Each State as Deadlines Approach

Election Day is Nov. 6, but voter registration deadlines in many states are well before that.

Here’s a list of each state’s voter registration deadline. Many are arriving this week. Deadlines have already passed in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

In the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Utah, Washington State and Wisconsin, some registration options have passed, but others remain open longer. (Florida’s deadline has passed, but because of Hurricane Michael, some counties will accept paper registrations after the deadline.)
